Culture and museums

During your stay at Playa de Aro, visit unmissable places of cultural interest such as the Pla de Palol Roman Villa, the Doll Museum, Benedormiens Castle or, a little further away, the Dalí Museum in Figueres

Another option to keep in mind during your holidays in Playa de Aro are the guided tours, ideal for finding out about the town’s history and main points of interest.

Pla de Palol Roman Villa

Pla de Palol Roman Villa is an open-air historical site focussing on the secrets and mysteries of Roman culture in the Mediterranean. It is an open access site where you can visit different parts of the villa.

The discovery of this ancient world bewitches the visitor with the history of these lands. According to all references, the town was founded around the 1st century BC and survived until the end of the Roman period, in the 6th century AD.

The Doll Museum

The Doll Museum in Castell d'Aro houses a collection of dolls and is located in the Town Hall, within a “National Cultural Heritage Site” framework.

Benedormiens Castle

Benedormiens Castle is the origin of the town of Castell d'Aro. It is documented for the first time in 1041, when the religious authorities, nobles and knights in the territory gave to the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols the custody of the castle in order to provide protection for the entire Aro Valley from attacks by the Arab invaders.

Dalí Museum, Figueres

The Dalí Museum in Figueres is a museum dedicated to the famous Salvador Dalí. The museum was built on the ruins of the old Figueres Theatre and offers a wide variety of works that reflect artistic career of the surrealist painter.
